Some 236 participants attended the CARL 1999 Conference at Asilomar. 79 evaluation forms were completed. This makes the questionnaire return rate of 34%. Based on questions asked, the main goals of the evaluation were:

    A. To gather input that will help in future conference planning

    B. To know attendees' views about the conference location, Asilomar. [See Comments.]


METHODOLOGY

The questionnaire designed by Locke Morrissey was distributed at all meetings. It was structured to measure, on a scale of 1 to 5, the following conference sections:

    A. Keynote speakers

    B. Panel or Open Discussions, Poster Session, and Roundtable Discussions

    C. Interest Group Programs. The Interest Groups programs were:

      Internet Showcase
      CDIG--Shared Digital Collections
      CCIG--Information Competencies
      CALM/CARLDIG--Remote Users
      CSUL--JACC

    D. Costs and Services.


RESULTS AND ANALYSIS

    A. The keynote speakers were ranked, with Cortez receiving the highest score in the Plenary Session. [See Figure 1.]

    B. The scores for the Open Panel Discussions, ranked lower than those for keynote speakers. [See Figure 2.]

    The Panel Discussions' scores are compared to the Poster Session's and Roundtables are all higher than average, making that a favorable representation.

    C. The Interest Group sessions were rated less favorably overall. The highest ranked was the ABLE program, and the lowest, the Internet Showcase. [See Figure 3.]

    D. Conference Services rating were most favorable. Included are the process of registration, food costs and hotel costs. All were favorably evaluated. [See Figure 4.]
