enhance your instruction skills:

META-LEARNING & TEACHING THE WEB!

10 am - 1 pm    Meta-Learning:  An Experiential Workshop

Presenter:  Deborah Fink, Public Information Librarian,
University of Colorado, Boulder; and founder of MetaLearning
Seminars.

Meta-learning is a tool for enhancing teaching through a deepened
awareness of one's own and students' learning styles.  It is useful
for instructional librarians who must keep pace with the learning
demands of the electronic library and an increasingly diverse user
population.  Deborah Fink has presented this workshop serveral
time throughout the country, including at LOEX.

2 pm - 3:30 pm  Teaching the WEB: Curriculum Design &
Practical Tips

Presenter:  Joe Barker, Librarian/Instructor with the Teaching
Library, University of California, Berkeley.

Joe Barker developed a three-part curriculum for teaching the
Internet and Web-searching to students, staff, faculty, and the
general public at the Teaching Library at UC Berkeley.  He will
discuss his approach which emphasizes making effective use of
various search engines, understanding what is going on when one
searches, and the nature of the Web and the Internet .  This
presentation will emphasize the values, principles, and methods
used in the courses.  A substantial packet of handouts, including
pages from his power point presentation, will be provided.
