Susan Harris

Susan Harris is currently Dean and Director of the Ruben Salazar Library at Sonoma State University, one of 22 campuses in the California State University system. She has been at the university, which is located in Rohnert Park, in northern California, since 1987.

She has served as chair of the CSU Council of Library Directors, a steering committee member of the CSU Academic Information Resources Committee, and a member of the Commission on Learning Resources and Information Technology of the CSU.

She is active in the North Bay Cooperative Library System and is a long-time advocate of collaborative networks.

Before going to Sonoma State University, Harris was Director of the Library and Publications Division at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, in Cali, Colombia, one of a system of agricultural research centers administered by the World Bank. In that capacity, she was an international representative to the AGRIS group, the world's largest information sharing network, managed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

She was also a consultant to the Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux (now CABI) in London, the International Service to National Agricultural Research in the Netherlands, the Canadian International Development Research Center in Ottawa and in Bogota, the Sugar Planters' Association in Cali, and to several of the other international centers.

Ms. Harris has published twenty-three books and articles and made numerous presentations to library associations, including the American Library Assn., the Special Libraries Assn., and the California Assn. of Research Libraries.
