California Academic and Research Libraries (CARL) is pleased to hold its 6th Annual Conference at the Sutton Place Hotel (4500 MacArthur Blvd, Newport Beach 92660), a very short drive from the John Wayne/Orange County Airport. Here is a map of the area around the hotel. To reserve a room, phone (949) 476-2001 or (800) 243-4141. Room reservations are being accepted now through August 20, 1998. Room check-in is 3 p.m. Those arriving earlier may leave their bags at the hotel registration desk until rooms are ready.
The rate for the CARL Conference for Thursday, September 10, through Sunday, September 12 is $110 for a single or double ($25 extra per person). Single rooms have a king-size bed; double rooms have a queen, double, or twin beds.
AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE
Sutton Place Hotel provides complimentary airport shuttle service from the John Wayne/Orange County Airport. Let us know your arrival date, time, and carrier no later than Friday, September 4. Conferees who are overnight guests at the Sutton Place Hotel may park for free. Conferees who are staying elsewhere may take advantage of free parking at the hotel after 5pm on Friday, September 11. At other times, parking is $5--see the registration form to request parking permits.
ARRIVING on Thursday? Staying until Saturday evening (or later)?
The weather should be beautiful, and conferees interested in "going out" on Thursday and/or Saturday evening are welcome to join one or more groups informally organized by CARL Conference Local Arrangements committee members. Under consideration are shopping at either South Coast Plaza or Fashion Island, a fun visit to Balboa Island, Roger's Gardens, the Orange County Museum of Art, and/or dinner at a local restaurants. Please indicate on the registration form to let us know if you'd like to participate. Those planning to attend a 9 a.m. Preconference on Friday morning can do themselves a favor by staying at the hotel on Thursday evening. Join us!
CONFERENCE PACKETS AND BADGES
Packets, printed programs and badges will be available in the hotel lobby from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Conference badges must be worn to all conference events. There will be no on-site registration. Space is limited to 200 registrants, so please register early. Note the early bird registration details--save money by sending in your form and check by July 24.
