Campus Liaison Coordinator, South Annual Report - 1995

1995 was a very active year for CARL, although with the advent of the various listservs for CARL members, the liaisons were probably not as active as in years past. We maintained the same number of CARL South Liaisons from 1994, thirty-nine, with only a few retirees. Fortunately, we were able to find replacements for the retirees.

As the campus liaison coordinator, I maintain an email address list of the liaisons, and use this as my main means of communication. This has proved extremely beneficial since I have no support staff to assist with paper mailings. Only a few of the liaisons, especially at small libraries, are still without email service. I do think these libraries tend to get left out in much of the CARL communication, and wonder what we should do about this.

All CARL South Campus liaisons were invited to the Regional meeting in January; however, due to very inclement weather, I think only 2 or 3 attended. I had hoped to have discussion and planning on liaison activities for the year, but this was not possible. Other activities included submitting items for the CARL Newsletters, recruiting new CARL members and encouraging others to renew their memberships. We were not active participants in the conference, but perhaps there is a role for liaisons in the 1996 Conference planning.

My goals for this upcoming year will be to:

  1. identify campuses that do not have liaisons and recruit new ones
  2. define the role of the liaisons as a group, i.e. do we play a role beyond communication and membership recruitment?
