Finding Free Legal Research Resources on the Web

This full-day seminar is geared specifically for library staff who have little
or no experience with legal research or with how to find free Internet legal
research sites. An overview of the legal system and legal research will be
integrated into the seminar. The seminar will include a PowerPoint presentation
and hands-on training, with time for practice searching. The registration fee
includes a 95-page, fully indexed book on Internet legal research.
Topics to be covered include:
How to evaluate the credibility of a free legal web site
Using legal meta-sites and portals
Finding primary sources of law (bills, statutes, regulations,court cases)
Finding secondary legal sources to understand and interpret the law
Using specialized topical legal web sites (family law, small claims court, etc.)
Legal research vs. legal advice
Locating attorneys and legal forms
Web-accessible pay databases and when to use them
A $100.00 registration fee will be added to your institution's OCLC monthly
invoice. The fee for non-members of OCLC Western is $125.00, and payment

Presenter: Carole Levitt, President and Founder of Internet For Lawyers has over
twenty years of extensive and diversified experience in the legal field. She is
a law librarian and a legal research Internet trainer. She has also practiced
law in California.
