SEAL South Presents:

Science & Crime: Intersections & New Paths for Investigations

Two speakers:

1. Professor Simon Cole, Department of Criminology, Law and Society, UCI.
The intersections of science and crime have been the focus of Professor Cole's research and instruction activities. A member of the UCI Faculty since 2002, he is a graduate of Princeton and has a PhD in Science & Technology Studies from Cornell. He is the author of Suspect Identities: A History of Fingerprinting and Criminal Identification (Harvard, 2001), several book chapters and articles on Fingerprint Identification. He will speak on "Incorporating New Science & Technology to Study Crime."

2. Aldrin Brown, Investigative Reporter, Orange County Register.
Specializing in public safety, military and homeland security, he has been a beat reporter for eight years. He has covered education and public safety for the Press-Enterprise in Riverside before joining the Register. During the past two years, he was a police reporter and a general assignment reporter before moving to investigations in June 2002. He will address, "Cops, Courts, Crime: Covering the Beat."

Light refreshments will be served. Directions to nearby restaurants will be distributed and it is hoped that attendees will be interested in joining colleagues for more dialogue and dinner following program.

Otherwise, parking costs are $5.00 a day (half day does not extend past 5pm). Directions to the Science Library from the Mesa Dr Parking structure: After parking walk out to the street (Mesa) and turn right as if you were continuing to drive. Cross W. Peltason at the light and continue up Mesa to the top parking lot #8 and carefully walk through it to the Science Library. Bear right, around the SL, and follow signs to event in SL #104. The door to SL #104 is in the first floor breeze way of the Science Library. The door into this area is usually locked but someone will be there to let you in.
