in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies

Moore Hall, Room 3140, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1520

As we approach and enter the 21st century, digital technologies will have a profound impact on the way institutions provide access to information. But will digitization also become a tool of the preservation community? NEDCC's reformatting workshop will address this question. Emphasis will be divided equally between general principles of reformatting, preservation microfilming and digital scanning for preservation.

The workshop is designed to train project administrators in institutions to plan, implement, and manage reformatting projects. Instruction will focus on decision making skills. Compliance with national standards and RLG guidelines for preservation microfilming will be emphasized and the "best practice" for digital projects will be discussed. It is not a technician training program.

The program includes hands-on experience and teaches skills for:

The sessions will introduce preservation microfilming and digital imaging technologies and compare their commonalties and differences.
