CARRIZO PLAINS NATURAL HISTORY
FIELD TRIP
APRIL 17-18, 1999
Janet Westbrook, Trip Leader

SEAL/CARL members have been invited to join Janet Westbrook's Cerro Coso Community College class studying first hand the natural history of the Carrizo Plains, California's last grassland valley; see the trip brief trip description at http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~jwest/#field . For additional information on this California treasure view http://www.ca.blm.gov/bakersfield/carrizo/cpnablm.html or http://www.iinet.com/re/events/carrizo.html . The trip will begin in Ridgecrest at 8:00 am on April 17, 1999. However, we have added a second meeting place near the I-5 - Highway 99 divergence for those for whom Ridgecrest is not convenient; this will be at the Mettler Chevron station between 11 & 11:30 am - leaving for the Plains at 11:45 am. Note this field trip is a dry camping, pit toilet experience; you will need to bring food and drinking water. Roads will be dirt but will not require 4 wheel drive - a passenger car should be ok; we will communicate between vehicles via CB radio. There are no motels, restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, beer bars, or Starbucks anywhere near where we will camp.

Register on the Cerro Coso Community College page at http://www.cc.cc.ca.us/cconline/Default.htm You will need to matriculate first - just follow the online instructions. After online matriculation, you will be able after a brief waiting period to register by phone. Your social security number will serve as your registration PIN. The class is course no. 13157 and will cost $6.00 - yep, that's a bargain. Please call or email once you have registered so that I can send you more trip specific information. Also, contact me if you have questions.
