1.
Facilitate communication between CARL and your institution
The
primary function of the CARL Campus Liaison is to provide your institution
with a local representative for CARL. This position provides for communications
in two directions--allowing you to funnel information from CARL to your
institution as well as forwarding questions and issues from your colleagues
to CARL.
- At the
beginning of your term, announce your position as CARL Campus Liaison
to your colleagues.
- If a
colleague raises a question about CARL, try to answer or pass it along
to the Campus Liaison Coordinator. These will either be answered directly
or passed on to the Executive Board.
- Keep
your colleagues aware of upcoming CARL programs. Programs are announced
on the CARL membership reflector and in the the CARL Newsletter.
2. Recruitment
One
of your major areas of responsibility is to recruit members for CARL.
This applies primarily to your institution, however, CARL material can
also be distributed at local meetings of similar organizations.
- In April,
the Campus Liaison Coordinator will send you a list of all CARL members
from you institution, including those whose membership has lapsed. Make
personal contact with the lapsed members and remind them that they have
not yet renewed their membership. Be sure to keep your own membership
current. If you learn in your discussion that they do not intend to
renew, try to discover their reasons. If they mention issues about the
organization that would be of interest to the Executive Board, pass
that information along to the Campus Liaison Coordinator.
- When
new librarians are hired at your institution, introduce yourself as
CARL campus liaison and provide them with information about the organization
along with a membership form, and if available, show (or give) them
a copy of the CARL Newsletter. Introduce them to this Web
site.
- Whenever
possible, distribute CARL material at local meetings of organizations
with similar or related concerns.
3. Information Gathering for the CARL Newsletter
Throughout
the year, collect professional news about your colleagues and institution
for the CARL Newsletter. This will be included in the "People
Making News" and "Places Making News" sections of the Newsletter.
These news items should be sent in electronic format to your regional
Campus Liaison Coordinator, who will collate the information and forward
it to the CARL Newsletter Editor. The deadlines for submissions
are listed in the Newsletter but currently are: February
15, May 15, August 15, and November 15.

information about CARL check this Web site.
