Starting Salary: from a minimum of $63,156 for 12 months (commensurate with qualifications and experience). Relocation funding may be available.

Position description: The California State Polytechnic University, Pomona University Library is seeking a dynamic and innovative librarian to play a leadership role in planning, implementing, and supporting digital collections and services including the coordinating and functioning of Bronco Scholar, the university’s institutional repository; providing vision and direction for all aspects of the Library’s website; and working collaboratively with library staff and others to design, develop, and provide ongoing maintenance for the library’s digital resources and digital collections. This librarian will also provide training and perform outreach to the campus community regarding the library’s digital initiatives and programs. Additionally, s/he will lead the ongoing investigation into new technologies that support and enhance library collections and services. The Digital Services Librarian reports to the Dean of the Library.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in the development and management of digital resources and collections
  • Provide leadership in the management of the Systems department (3 fulltime staff and student assistants)
  • In collaboration with other library staff , maintain and enhance the library’s web presence and various electronic services
  • Provide leadership in the development and management of the institutional repository, Bronco Scholar
  • Engage in significant outreach activities designed to heighten campus awareness of open access principles, author rights, copyright, and other important trends and issues in the growing field of digital scholarly communication
  • Coordinate and implement various digital projects in the library and on campus
  • Initiate and promote scholarly communication and publishing initiatives
  • Coordinate training for digitization and associated standards
  • Maintain awareness and develop in-depth knowledge of new technology, relevant national standards, and best practices related to digitization and online scholarship
  • Participate in reference, instruction, and collection management activities
  • Perform related duties as assigned

 Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited graduate degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent degree
  • Knowledge of open source software applications and open access principles and practices
  • Knowledge of emerging trends in digital scholarly communications, library technologies, and digitization activities
  • Experience with digital collection architectures, platforms, and products
  • Knowledge of metadata standards, such as EAD, MODS, METS, and Dublin Core and practical experience with XML
  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutional repositories management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of web design, social networking, and graphic design programs
  • Experience with blogs, wikis, RSS, and other Web 2.0 applications
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a culturally diverse and rapidly evolving environment
  • Ability to meet expectations for professional growth consistent with standards for re-appointment, promotion, and tenure
  • Excellent oral and written communication

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic library experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Grant writing experience
  • Experience with project management
  • Familiarity with Ex Libris Alma library management system
  • Experience programming in a scripting language such as PHP and JavaScript
