The Dudley Knox Library at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), in Monterey, California, is seeking outstanding candidates for Associate University Librarian (AUL).

Reporting to the University Librarian (UL), the AUL is delegated a portion of the UL’s responsibilities for programs, personnel, policy, or administration.  The Library is embarking on a major project to transition from multiple local systems to a unified web scale discovery, access and management system.  The AUL is responsible for ensuring that library policies and procedures are in place to efficiently support NPS resident and distributed academic and research programs.

With 3 direct reports and approximately 28 FTE library personnel, key responsibilities include: supervising library administrative, fiscal and systems staff; managing budgets, manpower, training, and physical facilities; and leading the collection and presentation of metrics used to assess the Library’s contributions to student learning and faculty productivity. The AUL represents the library by serving on campus and outside committees.

Minimum qualifications:

  • An earned American Library Association accredited Masters’ of Library and Information Science or business/management equivalent (such as Masters’ of Business Administration, Management, Public Affairs, or Public Administration)
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience at the department head level or above in an academic/research/special library or university setting
  • Demonstrated evidence of expertise in resource management and ability to articulate how emerging technologies influence library budgets, services, and staffing necessary to support graduate-level scholarship, teaching and research.
