Position description

Robert E. Kennedy Library seeks a service oriented Digital Scholarship and Publishing Specialist as part of Academic Services. Under general supervision of the College of Science and Mathematics and School of Education Librarian, this position supports the functions of the library’s expanding digital repository, supports students and faculty in using digital platforms for publishing and sharing their work and research output, and contributes to the overall services and programs of Academic Services and the Kennedy Library. The Digital Scholarship Specialist will join that unit to provide client service, technical expertise, training, and support for tools and practices that are used by students, faculty and staff researchers engaged with digital scholarship and publishing.


Primary activities related to soliciting and managing deposits to the institutional repository include but not limited to: direct and ongoing contact with faculty, students, and staff; ongoing assistance with copyright questions; facilitate the use and acquisition of Cal Poly research collections; assistance with emerging electronic media and publishing practices, and bibliographic searching; guide the selection, enhancement or creation of new tools and workflows to support scholarly research; requesting copyright permissions from publishers and authors; ongoing assistance with copyright questions; tracking and processing submissions from contributors; creating and uploading digital files and related metadata in approved formats; assisting students and faculty in using digital publishing platforms; and supervising student assistants working on repository tasks.
