Library Aide I/II

HOURLY PAY RATE: Library Aide I: $10.50 – $12.76 per hour. Library Aide II: $11.03 – $13.41 per hour. This is a part-time, at-will position and is not eligible for benefits.

The City of Arcadia is seeking motivated and service-oriented individuals to support various sections of the library performing a wide variety of routine, technical, and clerical duties.

Responsibilities of each Position:
Library Aide I – Under immediate supervision:

  • Sorts and shelves books, and other materials alphabetically and numerically for different sections, which include DVD’s, audio books, fiction/non-fiction; straightening shelves and loose books.
  • May include assisting supervisor with ongoing projects in various sections of the library.
  • Shelves magazines and newspapers for reference and circulation.
  • Assist patrons with general directions.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Library Aide II – Under general supervision:

  • Checks in and checks out books and other library materials; assists, registers patrons and issues library cards; collects fines and processes transactions.
  • Provide customer service by assisting patrons with use of computers and related equipment, including copiers, scanner, and printers.
  • Prepares materials for delivery; receives and distributes library items.
  • Maintain equipment by providing basic-level troubleshooting, re-supplying and cleaning.
  • Assist patrons with use of software, particularly automated computer reservation system and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Enforce City policies, rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The Arcadia Public Library is open Monday through Saturday. Hours for this position are fifteen (15) hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays.

Library Aide I: No experience is required. Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade or current enrollment in high school.
Library Aide II: One (1) year of experience as a Library Aide. Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade or current enrollment in high school.
Special Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat reach, twist, lift and carry 30 lbs., and push/pull 120 lbs. with or without accommodation; availability for shift work.
