INSTRUCTION & REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
Temporary Position for Fall 2013 semester (August 12th – December 20th)
The Marymount Library seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and collaborative team member to fill a temporary position for the Fall 2013 semester. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, this position supports and advances the library instructional programs through the application of information literacy standards, instructional design principles, pedagogical knowledge, educational technologies and ongoing assessment efforts. Additionally, this position provides research consultation and computing support through regularly scheduled shifts at the reference desk and embraces a strong, responsive, user-centric customer service model.
Teaches information literacy workshops in freshman seminar, English composition, and discipline-specific courses
Coordinates the teaching schedule of the Library and schedules Library instructors
Contributes to the design, development, and delivery of pedagogically-sound tools and materials (including e-learning modules, video tutorials, rubrics, assignments, etc.) that foster the development of library/IL skills and competencies
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and contributes to departmental assessment projects
Provides in-person and virtual reference services, including in-depth research consultations and point of need information literacy instruction, to students, faculty, and staff using a combination of print and electronic resources
Maintains appropriate instruction and reference statistics
Participates in collection development for designated subject areas
Participates in library programming and outreach efforts
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Masters degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited program
Information Literacy instruction and reference experience in an academic library setting requiring familiarity with current library resources and technologies
Knowledge of a wide range of print, electronic, and Internet research tools; knowledge of trends and pedagogy in information literacy, instructional design and teaching; ability to manage an instructional program, including outreach to faculty; demonstrated ability designing and conducting library instruction with a focus on information literacy; strong technology skills, including familiarity with web applications and emerging learning technologies; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work successfully with students, faculty and staff from a variety of backgrounds; ability to work collegially in small groups and team environments; commitment to high-quality customer service; ability to work in a collaborative, rapidly changing environment.
