About the Program:
The John Spoor Broome Library team is comprised of 11 librarians and 11 staff members. A critical part of the CSUCI experience, the Library supports the learning and research communities of our diverse campus through its collections, and robust information literacy program. The Broome Library is prized by faculty and students alike for its careful attention to physical space, collections, special programming, and services such as equipment lending. The Library’s commitment to comprehensive reference service, active learning pedagogy, multicultural programming, and range of methods for gathering student input reflect its alignment with and support of the campus’s four mission centers. Furthermore, the integration of information literacy standards into the campus General Education learning outcomes creates an effective foundation for its core educational mission.
About the Position:
The Electronic Resources Management Librarian oversees the lifecycle of the Broome Library’s electronic resources, including licensing, discoverability, access & accessibility, administration & support, operating under the day-to-day supervision of the Head of Collections & Resource Management. This position develops, recommends, implements, & maintains an operational management strategy for the Library’s electronic resources. This Librarian monitors & manages the entire complex life cycles of e-serials, e-books, databases, & streaming video, & applies best practices for discoverability and accessibility of Library resources to improve electronic resource access, usability and accessibility. The position works collaboratively with Library faculty & staff, vendors, & campus IT Services to ensure seamless, and uninterrupted access to, and discovery of, the Library’s electronic resources.
- Creates and maintains policies and best practices related to electronic resource management in collaboration with various stakeholder groups including students, discipline faculty, academic support services, accessibility support services, and others to ensure timely and equitable access to academic research collections.
- Maintains close working relationships with content providers, vendors, and campus and CSU partners.
- Works to ensure adherence to license terms for electronic library resources including but not limited to database, e-book, and streaming media (facilitating data harvesting, clarifying license terms and costs, and developing and sharing usage reports) in consultation with Library stakeholders within & outside of the library.
- Provides support to Library faculty and staff and patrons, as appropriate, to resolve e-resource access and discovery problems.
- Provides reference and research counseling to students, designs and delivery information literacy instruction, and conducts discipline specific subject liaison duties with discipline faculty colleagues as assigned.
- Seeks feedback from Library faculty & staff to regularly improve electronic resource system functionality.
- Troubleshoots and identifies solutions for electronic resource management workflows and processes.
- Designs and manages workflows for loading records, and license management for locally-purchased subscriptions.
- Coordinates the management of the electronic consortial bibliographic records through the CSU Unified Library Management System (Alma/Primo VE), discovery (Primo, web), and user authentication platforms (EZproxy), and knowledge bases (SFX, Primo) in coordination with faculty and staff who have responsibility for Library acquisitions & programming.
- Serves as the library liaison with the Chancellor’s Office, Ex Libris, and CSU Library groups directly relevant to library electronic resource management matters by participating in CSU-wide discussions, working groups and task forces related to electronic resource management in the CSU system.
- Monitors relevant Chancellor’s Office, Ex Libris, and CSU Library group listservs and communications to ensure effective communication of changes & developments relevant to ensuring access to electronic resources.
- Creates resource usage reports for resource allocation, analysis, budget review, institutional assessment, accreditation needs, and state and federal reporting requirements.
- Oversees LOCKSS and CLOCKSS e-resource preservation systems, in collaboration with the Library Programmer.
- Identifies emerging trends and technologies in e-resource management that have the potential for new and improved library service, as for example Open Educational Resources (OER).
- Provides reference and instruction services to a diverse student body.
- Collaborates with librarians and university partners to integrate library collections & services across the curriculum.
- Serves on library and university committees and task forces.
- Pursues scholarship as expected of a tenure-track position.
Minimum Degree Requirements:
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science/Information Science (or equivalent foreign degree) by July 2021.

- 3-5 years of professional library experience in electronic resource management, including experience working with vendors and publishers, negotiating licenses, and experience with other ER related applications such as link resolvers (esp. SFX) and proxy server configuration (esp. EZproxy) at time of application.
- Evidence of a strong commitment to service excellence to a diverse community including a focus on first-generation, Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, Asian/Asian American, and other historically marginalized groups.
- At least two years’ experience with Alma, Primo Central Discovery Index, and Primo/Primo VE.
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant standards and practices, such as OpenURL, COUNTER, SUSHI, EDI, and KBART.
- Basic knowledge of Oracle and SQL.
- Technical aptitude and ability to learn new programs as necessary.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and the community.
- Evidence of effective cross-cultural interpersonal and communication skills (i.e., multicultural competencies).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment, prioritizing work to ensure that departmental and Library goals are realized per stated specifications.
