The Director, who serves on the Dean’s administrative team, works closely with a variety of partners throughout the Pepperdine community to develop and lead a multi-faceted fundraising, marketing, and cultural programming effort for the Pepperdine Libraries. This position will strategically communicate and advance the mission of the Libraries.


  • Develop and manage a public relations program for the Libraries in coordination with the university’s public affairs office.
  • Develop and produce marketing materials for the Libraries.
  • Actively promote and advocate for the Libraries.
  • Expand the Libraries’ relationships with donors, prospects, Friends of the Library, and Library Associates through special events, membership development programs, and other means, leading to increased financial support for the Libraries and its initiatives.
  • Coordinate the rich offering of lectures, panels, exhibitions, and other cultural programming presented by the Libraries.
  • Obtain philanthropic support for important projects and programs by successfully obtaining grant funds from internal and external sources.

Irvine Graduate Campus Librarian, Pepperdine University

The Irvine Graduate Campus Librarian is a key member of the team of librarians and staff who together manage the operations of the graduate campus libraries at Pepperdine University. The Librarian is a dynamic leader, responsible for carrying out services to support learning, research, and teaching in a creative manner. The Librarian works closely with colleagues on the Malibu campus and with colleagues at Pepperdine graduate campus locations around the Los Angeles area. The Librarian interacts with faculty in the Graduate Business, Education, and Psychology Schools, and participates in the design and delivery of services and programs that innovatively promote use of the libraries collections, services, and expertise.


  • Manage the Irvine Campus Library: Supervise library staff and students in daily activities at the library and evaluate their performance. Manage the schedule so that the library is adequately staffed during business hours.
  • Participate in collection development activities: Maintain a reference collection development and maintenance policy statement in business, education, and psychology. Evaluate and recommend materials in business, education, and psychology for collection development. Act as a subject specialist liaison with faculty and administrators and communicate with them on a regular basis.
  • Provide research and reference assistance, and other critical services to students and faculty: Assist patrons in locating information using analog and digital sources. Provide general research and reference assistance. Offer in-depth research and reference support in business, education, and psychology.
  • Actively participate in information literacy instruction: Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating a program of orientation and instruction for students, faculty, and staff at the campus libraries. Instruct patrons in information seeking research skills. Instruct patrons in the use of both print and electronic information sources.
  • Create and disseminate pertinent information to students and faculty: Create, review, and update Infoguides. Disseminate information about library services to appropriate distribution channels.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned, such as: Participate in the development, writing, and updating of pertinent library documents, such as procedures manuals, database guides, and training materials. Plan and execute small exhibitions in the library. Plan and coordinate presentations in the library (e.g., book talks, lectures, etc.). Participate in long and short-term library planning for the Library. Engage in research and publishing according to guidelines set forth in the Librarians’ Handbook. Serve on Library and University committees. Seek out and participate in professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Part-Time Reference & Student Engagement Librarian

  • Collaborate with library staff and GGU faculty to evaluate, select, and deselect materials in all relevant media; especially those in liaison areas.
  • Participate in Business Library planning, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with staff in peer training and other staff development needs.
