Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Reference & Outreach, this position will provide support to the department through both reference and instruction duties. The Assistant Reference Librarian will be responsible for meeting the basic reference needs of patrons both in-person and virtually, and providing instruction support to the Reference & Outreach librarians, focusing primarily in the areas of preparation, instruction, and grading.

About the position

As a member of the CDL’s Publishing & Special Collections group, the Service & Outreach Manager will support a product portfolio comprised of the Online Archive of California (OAC), Calisphere, and associated services such as the UC Shared DAMS. We are committed to helping institutions of varying sizes and technical infrastructure leverage these services in order to expand access to their collections within California and beyond. Working within cross-functional development and operations teams, the position will:

  • serve as a product and service liaison with contributors, end-users, and other constituents,
  • design and coordinate marketing and outreach programs to promote broad awareness of the portfolio, and
  • provide technical consultation and support for users of the products/services.

Our team continually seeks new and creative ideas for supporting our constituents. This position has the potential to develop fresh approaches to our work, including involvement in core activities such as:

  • designing and working with the development/operations team to implement new user features on product websites,
  • providing consultation and training for existing contributors to support continued use of the services and conducting outreach with new contributors to help them publish content in OAC and Calisphere,
  • conducting marketing campaigns to promote the visibility of new collections, and
  • evaluating the use of the services, through a periodic review of usage data analytics and an impact assessment study.

Instructional Design Librarian, Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles

The William H. Hannon Library at Loyola Marymount University seeks an energetic and innovative librarian to serve as Instructional Design Librarian for a temporary appointment, ending May 31, 2019. Reporting to the Head of Reference and Instructional Services, the Instructional Design Librarian collaborates with librarians, teaching faculty, ITS, and other campus stakeholders to develop, deliver, and assess information literacy instructional materials used for computer-assisted library instruction. This individual provides high-quality library services for the LMU community with a particular emphasis on the design, implementation, maintenance, and assessment of campus-wide information literacy instruction. Their main responsibility will be to create web-based learning modules and online tutorials specifically for upper division students and remote users, building upon very effective existing tutorials for the First Year Seminars. They will help develop benchmarks for online instruction and participate in the assessment of online library instructional materials.

  • Track emerging trends in pedagogy and technology across the sciences; experiment with new approaches to scholarly content creation and presentation.
