The Sciences Data Librarian will be joining the UCLA Library at an exciting time, joining a recently-formed department that is using a matrix structure to better meet dynamic and evolving campus teaching and research needs. Although physically located in the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library, the incumbent will be part of a team working to support users at multiple library locations and will have the opportunity to help shape that engagement in research data services. The incumbent will dedicate 20% of their time assigned in one of the multi-unit functional areas in the User Engagement division – either Collections, Outreach, Research Assistance, Research Partnerships, or Teaching and Learning. The incumbent will play a key role in building this collaborative program at the Library and furthering substantive engagements with the campus. To succeed in this multi-faceted role, the incumbent will need to be team-oriented, with the ability to both lead and support colleagues.
With a demonstrated understanding of the work of laboratory scientists, the scientific process, and the impact and potential of data science methodologies to research, the Sciences Data Informationist provides a broad range of research data management and information services. Working with campus partners and library colleagues in Sciences User Engagement and beyond, the incumbent designs, implements, and assesses library services and activities related to sciences research data management. These services include consultations, curriculum development, leadership in training librarian colleagues, and outreach to UCLA students, faculty, staff, and researchers in the UCLA Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering communities. This position will work both as a team member and independently. The Sciences Data Librarian is a member of the Sciences User Engagement Division and reports to the Head of the Sciences Division.
