San Francisco State University’s J. Paul Leonard Library is a busy, teaching-oriented institution supporting a community of 30,000 students as well as faculty and staff. The collections include more than one million items in all formats, including an extensive collection of online databases and full-text resources. The SF State library uses and contributes to Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo, which is shared by all 23 libraries in the CSU System.

Position Summary

The Curator of the Frank V. de Bellis Collection promotes the discovery and use of the collection’s rare books, manuscripts, music, and artifacts as an integral part of the library’s research assistance and instruction programs. The Curator provides specialized research assistance, access, outreach, programming, and instructional services to students and faculty in a variety of disciplines as well as to community stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

For the Frank V. de Bellis Collection:

  • Facilitating discovery of materials in the de Bellis Collection and providing users with research assistance.
  • Collaborating with teaching faculty to promote student research and integrate the de Bellis Collection into curricula.
  • Curating, facilitating, and promoting exhibits and digital collections related to the de Bellis Collection.
  • Reviewing, formalizing, and executing a collection development plan for the de Bellis Collection.
  • Preserving de Bellis Collection materials and prioritizing which materials to digitize
  • Maintaining the de Bellis gallery and storage areas.
  • Working with campus development and the University Librarian to identify funding sources for the de Bellis Collection and support donor relations.

For Special Collections & Archives:

  • Collaborating with colleagues in related units on rare book cataloging, preservation, metadata, digitization, and archival and manuscript processing.
  • Maintaining and updating Special Collections policies and procedures involving the security and appropriate use and handling of materials, reading room maintenance, reference and instruction statistics gathering, and user policies.
  • Providing instruction for Special Collections and Archives collections not limited to the de Bellis Collection.
  • Training and supervising student assistants, and ensuring coverage for the service desk in Special Collections and Archives.
  • Actively participating in Special Collections and Archives and library committees and events.
  • Coordinating the research assistance and instruction functions across all collections in the Special Collections unit, including statistics gathering, policy and procedure development, reading room maintenance, student assistant training, etc.
  • Pursuing continuing education and professional development opportunities.

Primary Purpose or Responsibility:

The Health Sciences Librarian develops curated collections, provides research expertise, and delivers educational services for health sciences programs. At present, these include Pharmacy, Speech-Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, Dentistry, Audiology, and Physician Assistant. S/he makes forward thinking contributions to learning-centered academic support programs, projects, and services that advance 21st Century information discovery and access and foster scholarly communications, research management, and digital opportunities. S/he also delivers services and supervises student workers in the Rite Aid Information Commons.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop and deliver a high impact educational program that strategically targets research intensive courses and scaffolds learning outcomes, in collaboration with health sciences faculty.
  2. Provide research consultation services, in person and online, to the Stockton Campus Library, Rite Aid Information Commons, Sacramento Campus Library, and San Francisco Campus Library.
  3. Curate health sciences collections, including owned, licensed, and open source, and foster resources discoverability, visibility, and usage.
  4. Contribute to the academic support librarian team, working collaboratively with other student-centered academic support providers to enhance students’ educational experiences.
  5. Partner with instructional designers and faculty developers to integrate library resources and library expertise into online education.
  6. Forge innovative partnerships between teaching faculty, library technologists in the library’s makerspace, and Center for Teaching and Learning instructional designers, to integrate library ‘making tools’ and online learning tools into health sciences curricula.
  7. Foster campus faculty and student contributions to the libraries’ institutional repository, Scholarly Commons.
  8. Contribute to campus information literacy goals’ evolution and assessment.
  9. Participate in local, regional, national or international organizations that advance library and information science in health fields.
  10. Serve on University and department committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate.
  11. Engage in scholarly/creative/professional activities that advance knowledge and foster enrichment, as desired and in consultation with the University Librarian.

The at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an Electronic Resources Manager. Under the direction of the Head of Metadata Services & Acquisitions, the Electronic Resources Manager will develop, recommend, and implement an updated management strategy for all of the library’s electronic resources. This will include record maintenance for the entire complex life cycles of serials, ebooks, datasets, and streaming video. The Electronic Resources Manager will implement and administer tools, features, and programs that enhance and improve electronic resource access and usability including the utilization of electronic resource management functions in Alma, the cloud-based library services platform. They will work collaboratively with library staff, vendors, and campus ITS staff to ensure convenient, seamless, and uninterrupted access to electronic resources. Some travel to Santa Cruz will be required, however this position has the potential to be a remote-work/telecommute position.

The Metadata Services department encompasses a host of collection-related work, including electronic resources (ER), acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, and physical processing. We support the core mission of the library by enabling access to materials that support scholarly research and pedagogy. The Digital Repository Developer develops and maintains the primary applications and technical infrastructure supporting systemwide institutional repository services.

  • Configure and customize digital library applications to meet the specific needs of each campus library and academic technology project in collaboration with Chancellor’s Office Systemwide Digital Library Services staff, campus staff, and consultants.
  • Identify any gaps in process, documentation, or procedure, and provide solutions for these.

Library Web and Repository Developer, CSU Chico

Working under general supervision of the Library Dean, the library web and repository developer works closely with the library faculty and staff to create, implement, and oversee the library website and repositories. This position leads the Web Development Committee which consists of faculty and staff who provide feedback for the direction of the website, including content, updates, application of best practices, and implementation of new features. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring accessibility standards are being met and incorporates responsive design into web development. Working closely with the Institutional Repository (IR) librarian and staff, incumbent will provide technical support for the interface and ensure the systems function properly for both data input and output. Additionally, this position participates in CSU wide initiatives to implement system wide platforms or provides recommendations for Chico specific software development, builds and maintains collegial relationships with campus IT, library managers, staff, and faculty to help advance technology initiatives and participates in the Dean’s Management Group meetings.
