The Caltech Library seeks a technically adept, forward thinking, versatile Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) information professional who is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the changing nature of library service and technologies. The Library is in a period of rapid change to meet the evolving needs of Caltech’s top-tier research and education programs in a timely and cost-effective manner. The HSS Librarian joining our team will be excited about working closely with Caltech’s faculty to support their research and develop well-rounded science and engineering students.

The Division of Humanities and Social Sciences is one of Caltech’s six academic Divisions, and offers core undergraduate classes and research opportunities across a broad range of areas, including business, economics, English, foreign languages, history, philosophy, and more. Doctoral degrees are offered in Social Science and in Social and Decision Neuroscience. Many faculty have joint appointments in other Divisions and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration centers across campus.

Located in the Dabney Library, the HSS Librarian will regularly interact with faculty, research scientists, instructors, students, and administrative staff to support all areas of research and teaching in the Division. They will blend established research library best practices with innovative and evidence-based services and teaching to strengthen the Institute’s research and learning programs. It is expected that they will provide in-depth assistance with reference and research inquiries, instruction on library resources and services, and communication between the Division and the Library. The HSS Librarian will also build the humanities and social sciences teaching and research collections for the Library, in collaboration with the members of the HSS Division.

Reporting to the Head of Research Services, this position will contribute HSS subject expertise and Divisional feedback to the instructional, reference, and collection management activities of the Library. They will work with other subject specialists in a collaborative, innovative team environment to provide service excellence at every phase of the research life cycle.

The University of California, Irvine Libraries is seeking to fill the position of Resource Sharing Manager, Library Assistant 5.   Under the general direction of the Head, Access & Operations, manages all Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and Document Delivery Service (DDS) activities for the Langson and Science Libraries with a coordinating responsibility for the Grunigen Medical Center Library’s interlibrary loan functions. Provides proactive leadership of the ILL Team. Responsible for assuring the consistent and timely lending, borrowing, and delivery of all types of material. Leads staff in continuous analysis and improvement of ILL and DDS processes. Resolves complex problems referred by other staff members. Compiles and analyzes statistics on a regular basis. Oversees the provision of excellent in-person and electronic ILL customer service.

Works closely with UCI Libraries’ Acquisitions and Collection Strategies departments to secure materials for patrons in innovative ways.
