STEM Librarian, UC Santa Cruz

The University Library at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of STEM Librarian.

For this position, we seek a user-focused and creative individual to lead the Library in envisioning its role in support of engineering research, teaching, and learning within an equity and inclusion framework. The Library has established STEM support through initiatives and partnerships housed in the Science & Engineering Library, including the STEM Hub, the Digital Scholarship Innovation Studio, and the Video Game Lab, and looks to this position to identify new opportunities and strategies for best engaging with engineering students, faculty, and researchers. We welcome candidates who are seeking to launch a career in science librarianship and/or established STEM librarians seeking professional growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science.
  2. Working knowledge and experience with web-based discovery systems/services (e.g. Primo/Primo VE) and one or more of the following systems/applications: unified library services platforms (e.g. Alma), link resolvers, proxy servers, digital asset management systems, digital exhibits, and/or institutional/digital repositories.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging digital technology trends and applications in higher education and/or academic libraries.
  4. Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication skills, the ability to explain difficult or technical concepts in layman’s terms, and strong project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. A degree in computer science or a related field.
  2. Demonstrated experience implementing and/or managing unified library services platforms (e.g. Alma), link resolvers, proxy servers, digital asset management systems, digital exhibits, and institutional/digital repositories.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge/experience implementing/supporting library technologies and digital library services.
  4. Demonstrated programming experience in one or more of the following: JQuery, Java, Ruby, Perl, PHP, Python.

Institutional Repository Librarian, Non-Tenure Track, San Francisco State

Position Summary

San Francisco State University’s J. Paul Leonard Library is a busy, teaching-oriented institution supporting a community of 25,000 students as well as faculty and staff. Our campus is part of the 23-campus California State University system, and we are seeking applications for an Institutional Repository Librarian who will work collaboratively with other librarians and staff across the system to operationalize the CSU-wide institutional repository, ScholarWorks. Additionally, the Institutional Repository Librarian will liaise with our campus community to promote ScholarWorks to students and faculty and provide related guidance on topics such as web accessibility and copyright.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the primary ScholarWorks campus project manager for San Francisco State University, to include active participation in CSU-wide decision making on metadata practices, systemwide policies, and platform design.
  • Developing local workflows and best practices for collecting, ingesting, and preserving the research and creative works of our students and faculty, in partnership with staff in the Library’s Digital Scholarship Center.
  • Providing guidance to the Division of Graduate Studies and academic departments on web accessibility expectations for student works, with a particular focus on theses, dissertations, and capstone projects.
  • Promoting self-archiving in ScholarWorks to faculty, advocating for the retention of author rights, and serving as a resource for copyright questions.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and communicating these to Chancellor’s Office staff to help inform the development process.
  • Creating public-facing user documentation and outreach materials.
  • Participating collegially in the collaborative development, implementation, assessment, and improvement of library resources, services, policies, and procedures.
