When OA Meets IL
The SCIL Outreach Committee Presents
When OA Meets IL: Bridging Open Access and Information Literacy to Enhance Student Learning
November 7th, 2014
11 AM to Noon, Pacific Time
Open Access (OA) is usually confined to discussions of “formal” academic scholarship, and rarely explored for its potential to enhance student learning. Char, Annie, and Carmen explore the pedagogical intersections between information literacy (IL) and OA. We will share strategies for incorporating OA as a vehicle for engaging students in research-based concepts and scholarly processes, and create a forum for discussing how to empower students to perceive themselves as “active” content creators and information users.
The presenters include:
Char Booth
Head of Instruction Services
Claremont Colleges Library
Annie Knight
Reference and Instruction Librarian
Santa Ana College
Carmen Mitchell
Institutional Repository Librarian
California State University San Marcos
This was a joint SCIL/SCORE (Scholarly Communications and Open Resources for Education) online meeting.
