Parking: The closest parking to the Kellogg Library is Lot C. Parking is a fee of
$9 for an all-day pass. There is a permit machine (pay station) at the top of Lot C; the machine

About the Program
The ability to collaborate is a highly valued skill in librarianship. As teaching librarians, we
collaborate with faculty, librarians, students, administrators, and community partners in order to
be successful in and out of the classroom. Sometimes, "collaboration" looks
(and feels) like bending to the whim of faculty or administrators just to have access to students.
In order to become equal partners with faculty, we must build skills, dispositions, and habits of
mind of a teacher; these are not often made explicit or taught, yet are required in many types of
librarian positions. A strong degree of confidence and sense-of-self is key to building robust,
equal, and sustainable relationships with all stakeholders.
Attendees will learn how librarian teaching identity is integral to agency and the basis of engaging
in true collaboration with faculty. By working through scenarios and creating scripts, attendees
will develop language and framing techniques that allow them to build capital with disciplinary
faculty and demonstrate the value of their work. This work will also allow attendees to begin
articulating their teaching philosophy and building the foundation for deeper connections to their
students through stronger relationships with faculty.
About the Presenter
Allison Carr currently serves as the Academic Transitions Librarian in the Teaching and Learning
Department at CSUSM. In this role, Allie leads curriculum development of information literacy
programs for first-year learners and transfer students. She also provides research support to both
faculty and students and information literacy instruction in the disciplines of Communication and
Media Studies. Also, in summer of 2018 Allison took on a three-year role as the Director of CSUSM's
Faculty Center. She and her team provide professional development programming on all aspects of
faculty life on CSUSM's campus in areas such as teaching, research, and service.
Allison has contributed to the profession not only in her service as CARL Vice President and
President (2012-15), and SCIL Chair (2011) and she actively contributes to the scholarship by having
authored over 20 publications. Allison has conducted research on librarian identity and faculty
collaboration, which is a foundation for our SCIL Spring Program. Allison embodies her librarian
identify, putting into action meaningful collaborations across campus resulting in instructional
opportunities and the development of instruction that has reached the programmatic level.
