California Academic and Research Libraries (CARL), a state chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), provides opportunities for the professional growth of its members by:
- Conducting workshops and arranging programs.
- Encouraging the exchange of ideas and information relating to library cooperation and development.
- Disseminating educational information oriented to those working in academic and research libraries.
- Supporting and, when appropriate, participating in programs of other regional and local organizations in California in order to promote and improve library service to the academic and research community.
As a member of CARL, you'll be part of a diverse and engaged community of librarians serving every kind of academic and research library. Your decision to become a member of CARL will not only help you, it will enrich the entire association and profession. Most importantly, membership in CARL will not only enable you to learn from your colleagues around the state and region, it will also give us a chance to learn from you.
We offer three membership categories:
CARL memberships are for 12 months' duration and are due for renewal on the anniversary date of your most recent dues payment. If you have questions about joining or renewing, feel free to contact CARL's Membership Director.
Get Involved
Increase your involvement in CARL by volunteering to serve in an interest group or committee. Volunteers not only give to the association, they get back from the association by building ties with academic and research librarians around the state; enhancing leadership skills through communication and collaboration; sharing expertise with colleagues; and gaining additional knowledge in new areas.
