Please submit your presentation proposal for CARL's free virtual conference taking place April 2-3, 2026.
Our conference theme is Librarians at the Forefront: Centering Human Intelligence in an AI Future
This conference explores the evolving role of librarians as artificial intelligence (AI) integrates into research, data management, and library services. It emphasizes balancing emerging technology with human expertise, critical thinking, ethics, and information literacy instruction.
In this virtual conference we hope that attendees will engage with complex topics such as:
Advocating for human intelligence and expertise in the face of automation and changing technology.
Methods, techniques, and approaches to modernize the profession and prioritize the humans in the library.
Emphasizing information literacy instruction and the development of students into independent, capable, and critical thinkers, researchers, and global citizens.
Addressing the ethical responsibilities of librarians in the use and oversight of AI.
We ask you to creatively form your own interpretation of what centering human intelligence in an AI future is and what it means to you. Proposal topics may include but are not limited to:
Radical, innovative and outside of the box ideas to engage, instruct, perform job duties, support students, engage library staff, educate faculty and administrators as learners, and transcend library practices.
Leveraging technology in new ways.
Empowering fellow attendees with new ideas or one-shots, instruction sessions, and embedded librarianship that incorporate AI.
Increase knowledge of popular AI tools, from ChatGPT to AI-integrated library systems and beyond.
Foster collaboration and networking among paraprofessionals and librarians, and between early/mid-career librarians and students.
Future-proof librarianship by preparing for upcoming obstacles and opportunities.
Proposals are due Friday, December 5, 2025, at 5 pm. We encourage participation by all members of the research community, librarians and non-librarians! Please spread the word.
We look forward to seeing your proposals!
