Next DIAL-South business meeting

Dear DIAL Members and Friends:

DIAL-SOUTH is going to Orange County!!! Please joins us for the next DIAL-South business meeting Friday August 22nd, 2008 10am-12pm at Pollak Library, California State Fullerton. Specically Room PL-311 on the 3rd floor of the north side of the library..

PARKING:

Visitor parking permits cost $5.00 for all day.

The parking kiosk* is now located on Arts Drive off of State College (in the lower left hand side of the map). Parking in lot E on the east side of the campus as it is the closest to the Pollak Library (PL). If one enters from the north side (from Yorba Linda Blvd) there is a parking permit machine at the northern end of Lot E.

*The yellow permit machines accept one and five dollar bills only. Daily permits may be purchased in Lots: A, E, and G during all hours in which permits are required and are valid in all student lots and parking structures.

Mingei Museum Social Event (Balboa Park, San Diego)

Dear DIAL Members,

You cordially invited to the next DIAL South Social Event at Balboa Park, San Diego next Saturday (August 2nd, 2008)!!!!!

The program details are included below, thank you to Alanna and Chimene for putting everything together!!!!

11:00am, Waters Café for lunch in a lovely outdoor sculpture garden. The café is located in the San Diego Museum of Art. Waters serves handcrafted soups and breads, lively salads, unique sandwiches, and tempting desserts for a casual, family-friendly eating experience. After lunch, walk across the street to the Mingei Museum.

1:00pm, Mingei Museum: http://www.mingei.org/splash.php This is the museum for folk art, craft and design. We have booked a docent for an hour-long docent tour. There are three new exhibits. The first is the ornamental folk art of India, the second is on Hungarian folk magic, and the third features local woodworkers and fiber artisans from Southern CA.

Cost: $7 for adults, $5 seniors, $4 students and children over 6, Free for children under 6.

Parking is free, and there are small lots throughout the park. The largest is the Inspiration Point parking lot (on the east side of Park Blvd., between Presidents Way and the Balboa Park Activity Center) for easy access to the heart of Balboa Park via the free tram.

SPECTRUM OF THE FUTURE - CONFERENCE DETAILS

The 2008 National Diversity in Libraries Conference (NDLC) is being held in conjunction with the Kentucky Library Association, Kentucky School Media Association, and Southeastern Library Association joint conference in Louisville, KY. The NDLC is supported by the libraries of the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville, the University of Kentucky School of Library and Information Science, and the Association of Research Libraries Diversity Initiatives.

The National Diversity in Libraries Conference is a biennial event that serves as a regional meeting for library staff members to discuss diversity issues, especially issues common to the host region's culture.
